Stummfilm & Livemusik am 27.01.

Am Freitag, den 27. Januar um 20 Uhr begleitet der Anglistenchor Heidelberg im Rahmen des 16. Internationalen Festivals Stummfilm & Livemusik am dai Heidelberg mit einem Instrumentalensemble den Stummfilm "Salomé" von Charles Bryant, USA 1923, 73 Min.

Die Filmmusik wurde von unserem Dirigenten Jan Wilke komponiert, der die Aufführung auch leiten wird. Karten sind über das dai bzw. reservix erhältlich.

Aufnahmetest am 17. Februar

Der Test für das Sommersemester 2017 (für den polyvalenten B.A. Studiengang) findet am Freitag, den 17. Februar 2017, in der Heuscheuer, Große Mantelgasse 2, 69117 Heidelberg, statt.

Die Teilnehmer werden gebeten, zum Test einen Personalausweis und einen Stift mitzubringen. Sofern Sie zur Aufnahmeprüfung zugelassen wurden, werden Sie von der Universitätsverwaltung rechtzeitig bezüglich des genauen Ablaufplans kontaktiert.

Bei allen Fragen, die die Einschreibung betreffen, wenden Sie sich bitte an das zentrale Studentensekretariat.

Anglistenchor beim musikalischen Festtag zum 332. Geburtstag von Johann Sebastian Bach

Jedes Jahr wird der Geburtstag von Johann Sebastian Bach — der 21. März — mit einem ganzen Tag liturgischer Musik in der Heiliggeistkirche in Heidelberg gefeiert. Diesmal ist der Anglistenchor auch mit einem für ihn ungewöhnlichen Programm von doppelchörigen Motetten von deutschen Komponisten in deutscher Sprache dabei:

• Johann Sebastian Bach “Fürchte dich nicht”, “Komm, Jesu, komm”, “Ich lasse dich nicht” Präludien in b-a-c-h-Moll
• Johann Christoph Bach “Fürchte dich nicht”, “Herr, nun lässest du deinen Diener” F. Mendelssohn Bartholdy ”Die deutsche Liturgie”
• J. Brahms “Drei Motetten op. 110”

Das Konzert des Anglistenchors, unter der Leitung von Jan Wilke und mit der Begleitung von Clara Hahn (Orgel) und Thomas Dombrowski (Barockcello), bildet einen Höhepunkt des Festtages.

Am 9. April wird überall in Heidelberg an ungewöhnlichen Orten gesungen – und der Anglistenchor ist dabei! Year abroad September 2017 – June 2018: Assistantship at Oakham School

Every year for the past 17 years, a student from this department has worked as an assistant teacher in the German Department of Oakham School, Rutland, UK. Oakham is a private school with an outstanding reputation, and it offers excellent working and living conditions. The German assistant teaches German conversation to small groups of students and helps out with German-themed events.
Assistants receive free board and lodging plus £879 a month.
This assistantship is modelled on PAD assistantships and is therefore eligible to count as part of a praxissemester (ask for further details at interview).
Students waiting to hear from the PAD are encouraged to apply, and Lehramt students who have completed at least three semesters are at an advantage, but applications are welcomed from all English Dept. students who feel they could be an excellent German assistant at Oakham.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview on Wednesday, 17th May.

Anglistenchor - Konzerte

Im Sommersemester gibt der Anglistenchor zwei Konzerte.

Wir beginnen am Mittwoch, dem 28. Juni um 21 Uhr in der Christuskirche Heidelberg mit einem gemeinsamen Konzert mit dem Wadham College Chapel Choir der Universität Oxford.

Unser Hauptkonzert "Dark Night - Luminous Night" mit sommernächtlichen Stücken von Whitacre, Lauridsen, Gjeilo, Schronen (Uraufführung) findet am 14. Juli im Haus der Johannesgemeinde, Lutherstr. 67 in Heidelberg-Neuenheim und am 15. Juli in der Johanniskirche Mannheim-Lindenhof, Rheinaustr. 19 statt.

Garden Party

Dear students and teachers,

you are most cordially invited to this year's end-of-term Garden Party on July 28 at 5 p.m..

We're going to have a buffet with delicious food, a barbecue, and cold beverages. Any additional salads or desserts as contributions to the buffet will be greatly appreciated! A Reading

As part of the third Literaturherbst, organised by the town of Heidelberg, members of the Creative Writing Group of our department have been invited to read from their recently published collection of short stories and poems "A Tale of Four Cities" a collection from four UNESCO Cities of Literature.

The reading will take place at 4p.m. on Saturday 23^rd September in the library of the DAI. It will last about an hour and is free of charge. All welcome.

Freshers' Day

All new BA students are invited (and strongly urged) to attend our day-long orientation programme on Wednesday, 11th October, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The programme is designed to help new students get their academic career in English Studies off to a good start. In small group sessions led by advanced students, new students will be advised on questions how to put together a manageable schedule, how to register online, or how to use the library. In the afternoon lecturers and staff will present our programme of study, advising system, opportunities to study abroad, and services available in the department.

The day concludes with a pizza party hosted by the Fachschaft.

Songs of Farewell

"Songs of Farewell" bilden den Schwerpunkt der Novemberkonzerte des Anglistenchors. Am 4.11. um 18 Uhr tritt der Chor in der Diakoniekirche Luther in Mannheim auf, am 5.11. um 17 Uhr im Augustinum Heidelberg und schließlich am Donnerstag (!) den 16.11. um 20:30 Uhr in der Peterskirche Heidelberg.

Karten für das Konzert in der Peterskirche sind jetzt bei Zigarren Grimm und der Geschäftsstelle der Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung erhältlich. Auch für das Weihnachtskonzert am 17.12. um 19 Uhr in der Peterskirche Heidelberg sind dort bereits Karten erhältlich.

Hot Off the Press

What's new in the cultural life of the United States? In this class, we are sampling new books, films, tv-series, and music etc. to find out what is stirring American minds and hearts. Each week, we will focus on a new item. In order to keep the workload manageable, we read the works in excerpts – one or two students familiar with the entire work will lead us through our discussions. You can find this semester’s schedule on our homepage
