The Writing Center offers advice and guidance to students on every kind of written work, from notes, outlines, and drafts to research papers and application letters. By signing up for a consultation with a native English speaker at the Center, you can get individual help at any stage of the writing process. We ask you to identify the issues you think are most important – grammar, style, structure, argumentation, citations, etc. - and then we work with you to improve not only the paper at hand, but your writing skills in general.
Office hours during the summer semester 2012:
Just sign up on the door of Room 221 for an appointment with a native speaker. You can bring a printout of your work, a laptop, a memory stick or just questions.
Questions? Stop by or send an e-mail to writing-center@as.uni-heidelberg.de
The coordinator of the Writing Center, Dr. Sherry Föhr, has a B.A. in History and German Studies from Wesleyan University as well as an M.A. in German and European Studies and a doctorate in History from Georgetown University. She has taught writing-intensive courses at a number of universities in the United States and Europe in addition to working as an editorial assistant and as a writing tutor.
Please note: If you would like assistance with a paper you are writing in German, the Abteilung Schlüsselkompetenzen offers a freeproofreading service. See "Korrekturlesen von wissenschaftlichen Texten - Ein Angebot für Studierende der geisteswissenschaftlichen Fakultäten“ at http://www.uni-heidelberg.de/studium/imstudium/beginn/fitimstudium.html#13 for details.
